The following is taken from Genealogy of the Bricker Family of Columbiana County, Ohio, compiled by Marshall Bailey sometime after 1960.

The Bricker Genealogy

First Generation

The first Bricker of whom we have a record was a Swiss shepherd who wanted to come to America when a young man. He had no money for passage; but, as was the custom of that time, the ship owners brought Europeans to America, then hired them out to someone in America until they received the passage money due them. Under those conditions, Mr. Bricker left Switzerland and embarked for America. The young man was unusually tall and his companions on board ship teased him by calling him that "big lazy shepherd." Arriving in America, the ship owners were anxious to make the return voyage. They were able to indenture all the emigrants but Mr. Bricker, so they told him to do the best he could and pay them later. He was a man of considerable business qualities and great energy, thus was soon able to pay off the debt.

Mr. Bricker's first name is not known. He married after coming to America, but the name of his wife is not known. They had seven children: Jacob, Henry, John, Susannah, Eve, Mary, and another daughter whose name is unknown.

The above account was recorded by Silvanus Worman during an interview with his cousin, Elizabeth Bricker, daughter of David Bricker and Lydia Worman.
